When Life Gives You Melons

Helgen var otroligt rolig, även om den inte var så uppvilande. I fredags blev det pga. åska och hagel inget poolparty, men det blev grillkväll på Lidingö, och dagen efter följde ytterligare en kväll vid grillen, fast denna gång på Ekerö.

 

Jag upptäckte nyss att en hel del av mina kompisar fyller år nu i juli. Igår var det Alice! Åh, liten flicka blir stor. Vi möttes upp ett gäng och köpte lite gott att äta inne i stan och satte oss i rålis, tillsammans med ett tiotal andra människor. Det var riktigt trevligt, om än lite blåsigt. Påvägen hem träffade jag på finaste Isabelle och vi fick avnjuta varandras sällskap heeela vägen hem, efter att först ha missat bussen ut till ön.

 

IDAAAAG ska jag träffa en vän som jag lärde känna i Peking. Han är från Australien och har gjort en Eurotrip i sommar där han har hälsat på en massa andra vänner runt om i världen, och nu har han äntligen kommit till SVERIGE! Åh, det ska bli så kul. Det blir lunch på östermalmstorg och sen hoppas jag att vi får träffas lite mer i helgen innan han beger sig till nästa destination.

 

 

Jag sitter inne på kontoret vid Östermalmstorg och bilckar ut över haglet som faller/kastas ned på biltaken som står parkerade längs Linnégatan. Herregud, var kom det här vädret ifrån? Jag som skulle på poolkalas ikväll. När åskan kom blev jag livrädd. När jag först såg blixten trodde jag att någon utanför fotograferade, men åskan som kom millisekunden efter proved me wrong. GUD vad det bullrade! Fick mig dock att skänka en liten tanke till Thor. mmm.

Jag börjar bli lite less på det svenska vädret. När jag jobbar är det soligt, när jag är ledig så regnar det. Och mina gummistövlar tog jag såklart inte på mig, bummer. Hoppas hoppas hoppas på finare väder mot kvällen. Skulle vara så skönt att faktiskt få vara ute när solen är det.

Igår firades min 20-åriga vän, Clara, och det var storkalas! Jag och tjejerna dök upp efter jobbet med en stor bricka med Astrids ljuvliga cup cakes och en flaska champagne! Åh det var så kul. Vi lagade lite mat tillsammans med gänget och senare på kvällen började annat, trevligt folk droppa in.

 

20-åringen verkade vara hög på livet hela kvällen och log som aldrig förr!

 

 

Mindre kul var det dock att väckas 7.28 av Amanda som säger åt mig att gå till jobbet. Men väl framme på Linnégatan fick jag avnjuta en god Scones och en rejäl kopp kaffe, så dagen blev rätt bra ändå.

 

Efter jobbet tog jag en liten promenad och drog igenom några butiker. Jag lyckades hitta ett par schysta gummistövlar, Sveriges sommarväder i ära. Riktigt nöjd faktiskt. Nästan så man hoppas att det ska börja regna så man får inviga skorna också. Efter min lilla shoppingtur i stan kom jag äntligen hem och fick finbesök av fina Alice och vi avslutade dagen med te och bullar på balkongen.

My wonderful friend, Clara, is turning 20 today! I want to wish her all the best, and say Grattis som tusan! 20 years is a long time, but still it's gone by so quickly. The other night we had a sleep over, super-mega-girl-style, and just as we were about to fall asleep we started talking about old memories. It was wonderful! We started talking about things we both barely remember, but that was so much fun. For example, when we went to a summer camp together when we were in 7th grade. It was one of the worst weeks of our lives, so depressing. But even if it wasn't that, ehm, joyful, we had so much fun talking about it. After all, we were there together, so it couldn't be that bad. We were lonely together, if you could say that. After that conversation I am never going to forget about the awful weather, the river rafting, the weirdos we met, the people who didn't brush their teeth, and I will definetely never forget about the self defence course we took together with Muhammed. Haha, oh lord. Any ways, I can'tbelive we are both 20, and it's been over seven years since we did all these weird things together. I am so happy that you're still my friend, and that I am still yours after all these years. 20... it's insane.

 

Looking forward to celebrating 30, 40, 50, 60, 70, 80, 90 and 100 with you, babe!

When life gives you lemons, make lemonade. An old saying meaning that when life is "sour", turn it into something "sweet" . Kind of doing the best of what you're given and play the cards you're dealt. Better hope life gives you some sugar, too.

 

When life gives you melons, well, you might be dyslexic. But hey, life can be sweet sometimes too, right? On my blog I want to write about both sweet and sour anecdotes from my life. A life that right now is set in Beijing, China.

 

See, when I was in High School I studied Natural science combined with music. I also got the opportunity to start studying Chinese, so I did. In my second year of High school my teacher told me about a Chinese Language competition that was going to be held at a University in Stockholm. Me and my 2 friends, Anna and Ia, gladly signed up for the competition. We learned a song, Zhu guang li de mama (Mother in the candle light), that has followed us since, and we rehearsed a play that was about how much fun Chinese is (of course). Both the audience and the judges in the Chinese Bridge competition liked our performance, and so we were awarded first price. All in all we were 6 happy winners; Anna Gross, Ia Hansson, Esther Melinder, Elin Broman, Ingrid Eelde Koivisto and myself.

 

What we didn't know was our award. Apparently we were all going to move to China! We all won one year of university studies, anywhere in China.

 

Anna, Ia and I decided to move to Beijing to study at Peking University. Now a year has passed. A year full of Chinese people, Chinses food, music, meeting new people, performing at weird events in Swedish folk costumes, studying until the late hours of the night. But now the three of us are all back in Sweden over the summer. Even though my scholarship has expired, I have decided to go back to Beijing and continue my Chinese studies. I am glad that Anna Gross is coming with me. However, the third Swede, Ia, thought that New York University sounded more interesting... Those MED students. But we are happy for her!
